The Marina International Festival of the Winds plans on celebrating its 11th year over Mother’s Day Weekend, May 8 and 9, 2010.  The Festival will continue to have free admission and lots of wind-related activities and fun for the whole family.

The Festival is a celebration of the wind and features kite flying, hang gliding, skim boarding, wind-related art and science projects, giant kite demonstrations, kite-making workshops, food, vendor and informational booths, live music and entertainment, and a giant inflatable air park.

Events will be held Saturday from 10 am to 5:30 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm at both Glorya Jean Tate Park and Marina State Beach in Marina, just off Highway 1 and Reservation Road on the Monterey Bay.  Glorya Jean Tate Park will kick off the two day Festival with the Marina High School Diversity Days Cultural Celebration as part as the opening ceremonies and will continue with music and entertainment throughout the day.  On Sunday, for Mother's Day, Shinsho Mugen Taiko Japanese Drums will start the day followed by the dynamic and energetic 8-piece band Nu-Horizon.  The Park will also have activities both days at the Kid's Make-n-Take Tent, including a kite making workshop from 1 to 3 pm and a Kite Competition at 3 pm on Saturday.  The Marina Volunteer Firefighter Association will serve up pancakes at their Pancake Breakfast on Saturday from 8 am until 10:30 am, and the A.J. Robinson Health screening van will be available both days at the Park.  This year the festival will hold a Photo contest with prizes.  Please check back for details.

Activities at Marina State Beach will be ongoing both Saturday and Sunday.  Due to beach erosion hang gliding competitions are cancelled for planned both days from 11am to 3pm, however there will still be limited hang gliding demonstrations.  Skim boarding competitions will be on Saturday beginning at 11:30 am on the beach.  Please see the Event Schedule on our website www.marinafestival.com for updates and details.

We welcome anyone interested in helping with the Festival.  We are looking for sponsors, vendors and volunteers so consider getting involved in any way you can.  Please check the Meetings link for upcoming meetings and join us.

This Festival is a community-wide free family event.  We thank you for your support.
